THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY: LAVORATTI

Words by Tosca Cellini

Orlando second Wandering took place at the Chocolate Factory Lavoratti, in Varazze, Liguria, Northern Italy.

The Lavoratti company was founded in 1938 in Varazze, on the western Ligurian.
In the beginning, the business consisted of transporting sweets and drinks in a wooden crate over the shoulder to sell to bathers on the beaches. A few years later, Aliberto Lavoratti opened a shop in the historic centre of the town and there began the chocolate adventure.

In 2020, Fabio Fazio, mindful of the wonderful childhood expectations of the Lavoratti Easter egg, and Davide Petrini, entrepreneur and restaurateur, took over the brand and wrote a new page in the History of Chocolate.

Lavoratti is not your classic chocolate factory. Their chocolate bars look like Adelphi editions, contained inelegant boxes that simulate a bookcase to be tasted; another peculiarity is that the bars are engraved with the Golden Section, and Lavoratti also produces wonderful as well as delicious chocolate pencils, each one flavoured with a different flavour. The photos of the first campaigns were taken by Massimo Listri….in short this chocolate is very cultured and refined!

The Wanderers immersed themselves in chocolate fountains, visiting the factory and tasting the mouth-watering Lavoratti’s treats! They enjoyed also a 10% discount on all the products, at the end of the visit.

To the next Orlando Wandering!

In the Lavoratti factory, chocolate is like a precious book: each flavour is a word, each bar a chapter that speaks of

Our visit with kids to the Lavoratti chocolate factory under the auspices of the Orlando project was warm, cozy and memorable. As foreigners living in Italy for the 4th year, we are very interested in getting involved in the culture, crafts with roots, entrepreneurial landscape, but at the same time presented in a modern accessible way - through conversations, displays, through unity with creative people, passionate, let’s say, “mature hipsters”. I am grateful to Antonella and her team for a comfortable environment, goodwill and an open look, for involving us on a subtle, cocooning way. We are looking forward to the next experience!
